Saturday Session + Bday Party update

Saturday Session

This week's Saturday session will be from Southbank. Meet on the stairs at Streets Beach, near the Southbank toilets.

When: Saturday 31st August
Where: Stairs near Streets Beach Southbank. Park for only $2 (in after 5am out by 9am) in the under cover Southbank Car Park. You can park in the middle of the carpark and there is a door straight out to Max Brenners which leads you to the Streets Beach stairs.
Time: Meet 6am - 8am
What: a long run for a few hours OR 1hr 20mins run + 30min S&C workout with Matty! (if you are meeting for the workout, meet us at 7:20am  back at Streets Beach)

Cost: $2

Be there, followed by a coffee + breaky at Sweetopia!

BRS Birthday Party

As per the calendar, we were planning on having the BRS birthday next Saturday 7th September....however we are postponing and combining it with our Xmas Holiday party sometime in November - Date to be confirmed!!


Good luck to all those participating in the Bridge to Brisbane this weekend!  Enjoy!

We are finalising our plan of attack for the new BRS Team goal, we are excited, I hope you are too.

Saturday Session + Tough Mudder Wrap + Whats next?

Saturday Session

With Tough Mudder sessions over , its time to head back to some of our old favourite running places!
With the Jan Power Markets on at New Farm...a prime spot for our Saturday run this week!

When: Saturday 24th August
Where: Meet at the Rotunda, New Farm Park
Time: 6am-8am
What: long run, followed by a trip to the markets and breaky!!
Cost: $2

It is supposed to be fabulous weather, so bring it on!!

For those of you who haven't had enough mudder action....join us at 6am for a 1.15 hour run, followed by one of Matt's 30min Mudder program workouts in the park. If so, bring a towel and water bottle.

Tough Mudder

What a day!! a strong BRS team of 25 made their way to the first Sunshine Tough Mudder last Saturday morning. With nerves building, butterflies in tummies, and general excitement, we all climbed the wall to get to the start line for our 7:30am kick off. We got down on one knee, chanted thou shall not race, but see this as a challenge! thou shall not leave any man, woman, child behind........then it was GAME ON!!

We split into groups to tackle the 18km course, scattered with psychological and physical demanding obstacles, from Arctic ice baths, to jumping off 15m high platforms, to crawling through dark underground tunnels, to swinging across the most hard core monkey bars I've ever seen! I'm sure they were easier in the playground!

And Matt and I can honestly say....BRS smashed it!!!!  The teams tackled every obstacle that was thrown in their way with gusto!! they helped out their team mates, and random mudders, dragged, pulled, pushed, and encouraged their mudder mates through 10,000 volt electricity, the skate bowl from hell, log carries, and maintained nerves of steel crawling through water filled pipes and cages!

Everybody crossed the line with the biggest most satisfying faces, grins from ear to ear!

Matt and I hope that the 13 week Tough Mudder Program prepared you well for the event and gave you confidence to tackle the things that were thrown your way. We thoroughly enjoyed it and a massive congratulations to all who participated!

So whats next?
With the Beginners program finishing in May, the Tough Mudder Prep program finishing last week, and the Gold Coast Marathon festival done and dusted for another year, many of you have been asking so whats the next big thing, what do we focus on now!! 

Well Matt and I have some ideas to keep you loving running all the way to the festive season!
There are heaps of fun runs on the calendar......and we will add some events to spice it up!

What our mudders & runners will be up to Saturday!

The time has come!!!!

After 13 weeks of blood (yes!), sweat (plenty) and maybe even some tears, we are finally only 1 sleep away for our Tough Mudder Challenge. 

With a fierce team of 25 fierce BRS Warriors, we will approach the start line at 7:30am tomorrow morning! A chilly August morning for a few ice baths, and mud crawls, but the first wave which is a great result! 

We cannot wait to report how we all go and debrief on the race conditions! Non mudders, I am sure your thoughts will be with us!!

Some Final REMINDERS:

RACE START TIME: 7:30am Saturday 17th August -we are the first wave!! that means the course will schmick as!

ARRIVAL TIME: Registration opens at 6:30am - we recommend arriving at registration at 6:30am * remember it is a 20min walk from car park to rego

MEETING POINT: NO later than 7am near the Gear Tent  after you have 1. registered  2. had your head / arm numbered (if you miss us, see you in the start shoot!)

EVENT LOCATION: Caloundra Downs, End of Racecourse Rd, Bells Creek, QLD 4551 - it is approx 1hour drive from Brisbane Northside

COURSE:
Course map is in the info pack. Familiarise yourself with it.
We also suggest getting familiar with the standard mudder obstacles - http://toughmudder.com.au/obstacles/  they even give you some strategies

TOP TIPS
·         Have a nice healthy dinner full of protein and carbs!!
·         Continue hydrating NOW!! 
·         Get organised NOW make sure you have everything!
·         Get nutrition sorted for the race
·         Have a full tank of fuel Friday night so you don't have to stop Saturday Morning!
·         Have 2 alarms set for Saturday morning

TO BRING to the EVENT
·         signed waiver
·         ID
·         Cash (for drinks/food afterwards)
·         change of clothes - everything from shoes to jocks! and a towel!
·         During and post race nutrition and a throw away drink bottle so you can keep hydrating up to race start
·         Gloves

THANKS, Tough Mudders....and Saturday Session

A BIG Thanks to everybody who attended our Quarterly Birthday Dinner on Wednesday night!

Gosh how good is Turkish food on a cold night after a hard run! oh and the beers where quite refreshing too!

We would like to wish all our July - September Runners a BIG HAPPY Birthday!

Also to our two Matts, Mat Shepherd and Matt Waller (and of course their respective wifes Mel and Michelle) we send you best wishes for the coming days, weeks, and months ahead of new parenthood! Have a blast and enjoy your BRS Care Packs!


Tough Mudders

WOW after 12 weeks we have our FINAL Tough Mudder Prep Program Session :-(  it has been a blast!

Based on the outstanding improvements in times last week at our Goal Session, I am hoping you are all feeling much fitter, stronger and tougher than you were 12 weeks ago!

We have our last Run/Cross Fit session this Saturday starting at Boxing Express, kangaroo point, then a week of fine tuning and tapering, before our big event next Saturday 17th!

As Team leader, I will receive the Team Start time a week before. I expect to get it on Monday. We will email you all with a plan of attack for the day.

Don't forget to RSVP to info@brisbanerunsquad.com.au for the Tough Mudder celebration the night of 17th August.  3 months of hard training and dedication deserves a celebration!

Saturday Session

Our Mudders have our last Run/Cross fit session this week, so that means we are again running from Boxing Express, 87 Main Road Kangaroo Point (plenty of Parking at Captain Burke Park)

When: Saturday 10th August
Time: 6-8am
What: a long run, as long as you want it to be.....followed by Coffee + Breaky
Cost: $2

if any runners wanted to try out a Tough Mudder Session, we have some casual spots open this weekend, $20 for the 2 hours, starting 6am.

Saturday Session + Bris Run Festival + Dinner Reminder

Saturday Session

This week Tough Mudders are heading to the National Park for their 2nd Goal Session.

Matty C will meet BRS Runners. You are in for a short 1 hour run from Southbank this week before the running festival on Sunday.

Meet on the stairs at Streets Beach, near the Southbank toilets followed by a coffee/breaky at Sweetopia!

When: Saturday 3rd August
Where: Stairs near Streets Beach Southbank. Park for only $2 (in after 5am out by 9am) in the under cover Southbank Car Park. You can park in the middle of the carpark and there is a door straight out to Max Brenners and close to the stairs.
Time: Meet 7am - 8am
What: a 1 hour run followed by coffee/breaky

If you want to run longer, please meet at 6am, however there will be no coach there to mind you gear or coordinate the run until 7am.

Brisbane Marathon Festival - this Sunday

The Brissy Marathon festival is on this Sunday and I know many of you are participating!

Matt and I are unable to make it, however there will be a meeting point same as last year

Meet at the Main Gates of the Botanical Gardens (opposite Albert Street), meet inside on the left, near the grass oval.

We wish all BRSers good luck and can't wait to hear our you go! Please let us know.

Quarterly Birthday Dinner reminder

Its time, we have 20 RSVPs - get in now if you haven't already - tomorrow's D DAY for RSVPs
This time we celebrate birthdays between July - September!  and a good excuse to get together for a yarp, dinner and drinks. its always a great night

Where: Mado Turkish Restaurant (about 2 mins walk from the Ship Inn)
